Mostly Dry

It drizzled all morning but it wasn’t raining too hard so we decided to go ahead with our Tamar Park outing. Lucky for all of us that it remained dry until the last half hour or so! The dogs got some grooming and playtime in, and we got some nice photos and videos πŸ˜‰ And even though the weather wasn’t that great we were able to meet some new friends!

Maxwell has a funny and cute appearance. He kind of looks like a chihuahua and a bunny! Hahaha. He’s very well behaved and loved meeting the other dogs. We met some new friends that day and he kept trailing after them and sniffing them, but it seemed like he wasn’t sure how to play with them yet. With a little more time I’m sure he’ll be running around with a new group of friends!

Boodle loves people and had no problem going up to strangers to ask for a pet and cuddle. Look at her happy face when she’s getting her head scratched! Her tail hardly stopped wagging all afternoon and she definitely had a great time soaking in all the attention. Boodle is a very loving dog who just wants to be by your side!

Enya is a very affectionate dog who loves giving kisses. Although she was a bit too busy Β exploring and having fun that day to stop for a kiss, she did have time to ask for a quick cuddle. When someone new came into the park, Enya was the first one to run over to greet them. Enya is great with people and dogs, and would make a lovely addition to any family!

Mountie has beautiful, thick, long fur. Unfortunately living at kennels means it gets dirty and matted very easily! That day he got some much needed grooming done and I’m sure he will be much more comfortable in the summer without all those knots and dirt. He stood very calmly as he got his fur brushed! Mountie is a little shy when you first meet him but once he knows you he’s a fluffy ball of love!

Mountie had a shadow that day, in the form of his friend Hopkins πŸ˜‰ Hopkins followed Mountie around everywhere; the two were never apart! Although Hopkins was a bit nervous to be in new surroundings, having Mountie there made him feel a lot safer and he showed his curious personality. He wasn’t too scared of strangers and kept sniffing the air to see what was around. By the end of the afternoon he was ready for a nap πŸ˜‰

It didn’t start raining until around 20 minutes before we had to leave, and didn’t start pouring until right when we were walking out of the park. So overall it was a successful outing! The dogs got soaking wet but they didn’t seem to mind. Happy smiles all around! πŸ™‚

Fan Meetup

Our outing two weeks ago turned into a fan meetup for all the dogs! πŸ˜› So many people saw that Rhubarb, Runner, Lilac, Faye, and Hailey were going to be at Tamar Park, and they came out to see them!

With his handsome looks, it’s no surprise that Rhubarb has many fans! I love how he tilts his head and then looks up at you. So cute! Rhubarb used to be a very timid dog but he has improved so much and was ok with meeting strangers and letting them pet him. By the end of the afternoon he even went up to people all by himself to say hello!

It was also a special day for Rhubarb because his Life Saver Club sponsor came by to meet him. If you are interested in becoming a Life Saver Club sponsor, go to Hong Kong Dog Rescue’s website here.

Runner almost lived up to his name and tried to climb over the fence when we first got to the park! Luckily he quickly calmed down and decided to stay by our side. In fact he didn’t care who he stayed next to, he just always wanted to be leaning against someone! Haha. A woman came into the park and sat down next to him, and Runner just cozied up against her as he surveyed everyone else. Runner and Rhubarb were lucky because two volunteers came to visit them and took them on walks around the park and gave them constant attention! We had two stars on our hands!

Actually we had three stars on our hands as quite a few volunteers from Ap Lei Chau also came to visit little Lilac, who had only recently moved to Tai Po. Lilac is one of the smallest dogs staying at Tai Po (only around the size of a poodle!), and as you can see her fur is very unique! The fur down the middle of her back is very very soft, as is the fur behind her ears. Lilac is very sweet and it won’t take her long to recognize you as a friend!

Of course we can’t forget about Faye and Hailey! These two girls were surrendered to HKDR together and they love to play! They’re also very cuddly and small sized. You can even pick them up for a hug. They are great with humans and other dogs, and will run over to you when you call their name! They had a lot of fun at Tamar Park πŸ™‚

Faye

Hailey

It was such a fun filled afternoon for the humans too as the weather was perfect! Hope we can have more Saturdays like this! πŸ˜€

Joe’s Makeover

Last week we brought three younger dogs and one older dog to Tamar Park. Etta, Banksy, and Bernie had fun running around the park, while Joe was definitely the “old man” who enjoyed bossing the youngsters around πŸ˜‰

Joe is actually friendly with other dogs, but he really wanted to keep fellow HKDR pups in line haha. Bernie and Etta kept running away from him! XD Joe got an extreme makeover that day and had all the dead fur on his coat brushed away. We had a big bag of fur at the end of the afternoon, and Joe was a bit thinner! πŸ˜› I’m sure it felt very nice to be brushed because he stood very still and even lay down while we brushed him.

Etta is a relatively timid dog at kennels, but she enjoyed Tamar Park a lot, even more than we expected, to be honest! She was great with new people, and even went over by herself to ask them to pet her. She tried to play with other dogs, and had a lovely reunion with Cactus who knew her from when she stayed at the education centre (EC).

Banksy was also an EC puppy, and he definitely recognized Etta! He was so happy to see her and kept asking her to play. Etta was more interested in the new surroundings at the park though πŸ˜› Banksy loves the people he recognizes, which is pretty much anyone who he’s met more than once. He will lean against you to ask for attention, and loves to have his head scratched as proven by his happy smile in the photo below! πŸ˜€

Bernie is such a gentle and handsome dog. He loves everyone and is just a sweetheart. He will snuggle right in on your lap for a nap! He’s only 1 year old and will surely make a great family dog. Who will be the lucky one to adopt him?

There’s only a few more weeks of Tamar Park outings before we take a break for the summer! Be sure to drop by and say hi to the dogs! πŸ˜‰

A Cuddles and Belly Rubs Kind of Day

We had a fun time with Dawn, Gin, Hilary, and Jeremy at Tamar Park last week. Many people came by, especially later on in the afternoon! The dogs were great and had fun playing and interacting with people and dogs.

Dawn has a beautiful, thick, golden brown coat. She is a very sweet girl who isΒ happy to just sit by your side. She enjoyed the afternoon out and got lots and lots of cuddles!

Gin loves everyoneΒ and was always the first one to greet new people entering the park. He’s good with kids and this one father/son pair kept walking by to say hi to him. When they called his name Gin would run over happily to get some head scratches.Β He was definitely our PR dog of the day πŸ˜‰

Hilary is such a calm and quiet girl, that sometimes we forget she’s still really a puppy. She’s only 1 year old and likes to play with other dogs. She kept inviting Jeremy to wrestle, and would chase after toys along with other dogs at the park. If we threw a ball just for her she wouldn’t pay attention to it, but if another dog ran after it she would chase it! Hahaha. She never got possessive though, and shared very nicely. Another thing Hilary loves is belly rubs! She will roll over on her back and invite you to pet her πŸ™‚

Jeremy is a silly boy and loves to run! Except when it’s too hot; then he likes to dig a hole in the dirt to lie in. He’s also very young and has lots of energy. He loves to cuddle though, especially when we’re in the car.

We only have one more month left of the Tamar Park outings before we take a break for PAWsome Summer again. Hopefully there will be no more rainy Saturdays!

Summer Already?

Although it has been rainy and cooler these past couple of days, last weekend was beautiful, hot, and sunny! The dogs had fun at Tamar Park, although it wasn’t long before they were all huddled under the shade for an afternoon nap πŸ˜›

Otis is Jolene’s brother, but unlike Jolene he had no interest in chasing after balls. He was much happier snuggling next to you and asking for pets with his goofy smile. Otis is definitely a “people dog” and he kept making rounds at the park, saying hi to everyone and getting cuddles in return.

It even looks like he snuck his way into this family! πŸ˜‰

DSC03650

O’Brian is a calm and gentle dog, even though he is also big and muscular. He was the first one to lay down for a nap! πŸ˜› Click here to see our video from the outing and you can see how tall and proud O’Brian sits while he gets petted. O’Brian’s airplane ears add a super cute element to his handsome looks! πŸ˜‰

Nattie loves to roll in the grass and indeed that was the first thing she did as soon as she got to the park! It was so funny watching her run around and then suddenly flop down onto her back. I’m sure she got a lot of earthy smells on her that afternoon. There was one particular spot that she really enjoyed, and that was where she took her nap.

Eccles was a bit nervous to be away from his familiar surroundings, but he did extremely well and slowly warmed up to the environment. He loved to run around the park and sniff all the new smells, and of course he loved following the volunteers around, hoping for a treat! πŸ˜‰ As a result there are many photos of Eccles hahaha. Luckily they are all of his good side! (Except for one; if you’ve seen our Facebook album you probably know which one I’m talking about! πŸ˜› )

The weather should be sunny again this weekend, and we will be at Tamar Park on Saturday. Come say hi if you have time! Happy Easter! πŸ˜€

Eye on the Ball

We debated for a long time whether or not to go to Tamar Park last Saturday, as the forecast called for lots of rain later in the day! Since the weather seemed ok in the morning we decided to go, and luckily the rain didn’t start until we got home.

At the park we discovered that Jolene LOVES chasing balls! She always seems to sense when a ball is being thrown, and many times when we threw the ball for Cassius, Jolene would appear out of nowhere and steal it from him haha. Both dogs were really good at sharingΒ though, and never fought for the toys. Jolene was too fast though, and we ended up having to distract her with one ball while throwing the second ball for Cassius πŸ˜›

Jolene ran so hard for the ball that she scraped up her paws a little bit 😦 So we switched to tossing the ball in the air for her to catch. Her success rate off camera was nearly 100%! Haha. But almost every time we tried to film she would miss XD

At first Jolene wasn’t very willing to let go of the ball. But very quickly she learned that if she dropped the ball that was in her mouth, it would get thrown again and she’d get to chase it! πŸ˜€

Cassius likes to play fetch as well, but he enjoys chewing on the ball more. His favourite were the soft, squeaky balls and if he caught one of those he’d happily lie there chewing on them. If he caught a tennis ball he’d drop it and look for something else πŸ˜›

Cassius gets along great with other dogs, big and small. He’s very polite and was so easy going when he didn’t get the ball or treats. He just sat patiently and waited for his turn.

York was a bit nervous at first when strangers came in to the park, but he soon relaxed and even happily let them pet him! He was especially happy to see one of his favourite volunteers and followed her around everywhere with his tail wagging. He showed us how to sit, lie down, and wait for the command before eating his treat. York is very handsome and has an adorable habit of looking at you with his head slightly tilted to the side, as if wondering if you will come over to say hi.

If you think Otter looks familiar, then you have a sharp eye! Otter is the sister of Pip, who has also been to Tamar Park! Β Pip is on the left and Otter is on the right.

Like Pip, Otter is a chubby pup hahaha. Maybe she knew that she shouldn’t have too many treats, because she didn’t fight for any when people were handing them out. Otter is friendly with people and other dogs, and has such a sweet smile!

We are taking a break next week but we will be back at Tamar Park on April 1. Follow us onΒ Facebook and Instagram for more photos and videos of the dogs. Help us spread the message of Adopt, Don’t Shop! πŸ™‚

A Perfect Afternoon

The weather was great last weekend, and all the humans and dogs enjoyed a wonderful afternoon out. Even the traffic was very smooth and we arrived at Tamar Park half an hour earlier than expected! Haha.

May used to be a shy dog, but she has really come out of her shell now. She had a great time at Tamar Park, was not nervous around strangers, and even had fun playing with Daniel! When volunteers call her name she will wag her tail happily and walk over to be pet. May is a very calm dog and just likes to be close to her favourite people πŸ™‚

Lita loves to be pet and will stay by your side whenever you massage her head πŸ˜‰ She’s also very smart! We usually use treats to get the dogs to look at the camera, and by the end of the afternoon Lita would run over, sit, and smile for the camera even if we didn’t have any treats in our hands!

Daniel is only 1 year old, so he’s still very playful like a puppy! He was always excited when new dogs came into the park, and couldn’t wait to say hello! He has lots of energy and ran around the park, constantly exploring. The only time he would stay still was when he was getting his face massaged, at which timeΒ he would show a happy puppy smile that could melt anyone’s heart ❀

Joel is a big sweetheart and he loved meeting new people and new dogs.He had fun running around to seeΒ everyone, and I would often look over to find him also looking at me as if saying hello. He was probably just checking in to see if I had a treat, but it was still very sweet hahaha πŸ˜› Joel has already mastered the commands sit, hand, and down!

It was such a fun afternoon and we can’t wait for our next outing! πŸ™‚

One Year Anniversary

This was our first week back after Chinese New Year and we were excited to Β bring Typhoo, Oprah, Annabelle, and Horizon to Tamar Park!

Typhoo is a big goofy dog with a big heart. He loves people and will stick by your side to get attention. He can even ignore treats if he’s getting a nice scratch on the head! πŸ˜› He had so much fun meeting new people at the park, and quickly won them over by sitting down next to them and asking to be pet. He thoroughly enjoyed all the pampering he got!

Oprah was a little unsure about strangers at first, but once she realized they gave out free massages, she loved them! Haha. Oprah loves getting her face massaged and always runs towards you when you call her name.

Annabelle was a bit nervous to be in a new place with so many new people and dogs, so she preferred to watch everything from her spot in the corner. Well, it’s not really a corner since the park enclosure is round, but it seems to be a popular spot for the shyer dogs haha. Although shy with strangers, Annabelle was happy to interact with the people she knows.

Horizon and Annabelle are close friends, and they often stayed near each other. Horizon was more willing to go out and explore the park though, and even shared a very sweet moment with a new friend. She’s a very beautiful girl and we hope she can keep building up her confidence around strangers!

I can’t believe it’s already been 1 year since we started PAWsome Outreach. Thank you to everyone who has liked and shared our social media posts, and for coming to visit the dogs at Tamar Park! πŸ™‚

Canine Ambassadors

We won’t be at Tamar Park this Saturday because of Chinese New Year, but there are so many happy memories to share from last week! It ended up being a very warm and sunny day, we had many visitors and friends come find us, and all the dogs had a great time! πŸ˜€

Charcoal was a top canine ambassador. He loved all the attention he got and every time he heard his name his tail would start to wag vigorously! He happily said hello to everyone at the dog park, and was very patient with the kids who were still getting used to meeting a dog. He won over the baby who was nervous around big dogs at first, and let a little boy walk him around the dog park. We joked that Charcoal must have been very tired by the end of the day because his tail never stopped wagging!

Sheeba was also very excited to meet everyone. LikeΒ Charcoal, she loved letting everyone pet her, including the kids. I especially love this photo of her looking up at the little girl. Such a sweet moment!

dsc02025

Sheeba responds very well to her name and every time you call her she would come over to you. Look at that sweet smile! While Charcoal’s Β tail is quite round, Sheeba’s tail is long and fluffy. We loved watching it wag in happiness!

Out of the four dogs Vivian was the most shy, but given just a little bit of extra time, she was happy to let strangers pet her.

And once you get to know her, Vivian is very sweet and cuddly! Throughout the afternoon she would randomly come up to us and snuggle up against our legs to ask us to pet her. She has been introduced to many potential adopters but sadly has not been chosen yet because she is shy at first. Hopefully someone will be willing to give her a chance to get to know them!

Paige loved the car ride and kept looking out the window excitedly. She didn’t mind that it was getting quite crowded on one side of the car… hahaha.

001

Paige is a gentle girl and she took in everything at the dog park very calmly. Although she didn’t rush over to greet everyone like Charcoal and Sheeba did, she was happy to say hello to anyone who went over to find her!

I love this happy smile!

The PAWsome team would like to wish everyone a happy new year, and good health and good fortune in the year of the rooster!

Leaving the Quiet Corner

When we first arrived at Tamar Park, we let the dogs walk around on leash and sniff everything. There were so many new smells! When we let them off leash, they all decided that this corner was the safest spot to hang out haha.

dsc01580b2

There were some playful puppies around and I guess our dogs weren’t sure how they felt about that yet. Well, Zipper went out and played with them, but he would always come back and check on his friends. It was very sweet! We just let the rest of them stay in their quiet corner and observe the action for awhile.

Although Kayla and Kebab were a bit nervous at first, once people left them alone, they decided to come out and explore! Kayla loves to catch tennis balls, although I guess she’s not a big fan of bringing it back haha. She made some great leaps though!

Kayla also knows how to shake hands, and loves scratches under the chin.

She’s a beautiful dog with a great smile!

Kebab was a little more quiet than Kayla but he too came out of the bushes to get some attention. It was funny to watch him slip out of the bushes, sniff some dogs, and then retreat back to his safe spot haha. But eventually he stayed outside for good and got some nice massages. He even almost fell asleep a few times!

Don’t you just love Kebab’s “eyebrows”? πŸ˜›

dsc01592

This was Gaby’s very first outing! She was nervous, yet very calm haha. Whenever the park got too busy, she would quietly find a nice spot for herself to observe everyone. However she also liked to be near her friend Zipper, or one of her favourite volunteers. Zipper was very nice to check in with her once in a while! πŸ˜‰

Gaby was a good sport and let us dress her up as a princess for a little bit πŸ˜‰

dsc01544

She has such a beautiful smile!

Zipper is a young and playful boy so he had lots of fun at Tamar Park meeting new friends. He played with some other dogs, and showed off hisΒ tricks for a treat. He even learned that a tennis ball can be very fun, and is getting the hang of fetching.

He made tons of silly faces and we love these of him as an emperor haha.

Zipper is such a smart and fun dog! And he’s very handsome when he’s not busy making silly faces πŸ˜‰

All of these wonderful dogs are still waiting for their forever families. Please help us share their photos and videos; I’m sure someone out there is waiting for a dog just like them! πŸ™‚
