Sharp Island

Our very first PAWsome Summer, Woof Woof Tour Around Hong Kong outing took place on Sunday, June 26. We were so excited to bring the dogs to the beach, especially seeing how beautiful the weather was! I had many images in my head of the dogs being fascinated by the sights and smells on the boat, walking along the water, swimming together…. and then I had images of them being terrified of all the people and noise, refusing to get on the boat, and refusing to touch the sand :O Hahaha. Luckily they were all very well behaved and not fazed at all by the new environment. They hopped on the boat like they had done it their whole lives, and quickly settled down for the ride.

We met at Sai Kung Pier and then bought tickets to Sharp Island. There are many companies along the pier that sell tickets. If you have time you can even do the full boat tour.

This was one of the images in my head, and I’m glad it came true! πŸ˜€

Everyone was on their best behaviour on the boat. HKDR dog Fred and Ex-HKDR dog Charmaine was there as wellΒ πŸ™‚

It didn’t take long to arrive at the beach and luckily we found the perfect shaded spot. It was a beautiful day with blue skies and sun, andΒ in the shade there was a cool breeze and was very comfortable.

Sharp Island is very beautiful. Lots of other dogs were there that day to enjoy the beach as well!

AfterΒ putting down our bags, we took the dogs out to explore. All of them were willing to dip their feet in the water, but then they got nervous about the waves. Ben was the one who was the least afraid. Or, at least, his love for us was stronger than his fear of the ocean haha. If we stood in the water and called his name, he would think for a moment and then walk into the water to get to us ❀ He even swam for a little bit! πŸ˜€ I think with a little more practice he can learn to love the water πŸ˜‰

I love this photo!

As for the other dogs, at least they can say they’ve dipped in the ocean! πŸ˜›

Polly and the other dogs got their feet wet at least πŸ˜‰

Instead they had fun walking along the path behind the beach, or going out to the dock. And we had fun taking photos of them! Haha.

Look at how happy these 2 are.

Fred is so funny. He loves looking at girls! Hahaha. He would often go over to other girls at the beach to say hello. However his favourite girl is definitely his foster, Claudia. He would get jealous whenever Claudia paid too much attention to another dog. He’s not aggressive to the other dog at all, but he will walk over and stick himself in between that dog and Claudia πŸ˜›

Thanks to all our friends who joined us for the outing!

All too quickly it was time to go home. We stopped for some human food back in Sai Kung before taking a van back to Tai Po. The dogs just lay down and patiently waited for us.

Jersey: Will you drop anything for me?

Jersey loves her outings very much. The first time we took her out she was afraid to get in the van. Now she jumps in happily all by herself, even before we have finished laying out the newspaper! Even though she didn’t like the water, she had fun doing everything else. Maybe one of her favourite things was lying here in the grass while we waited for the van to pick us up! πŸ˜‰

I watched Polly very closely while we were on the boat because I didn’t want anyone to complain about the dogs. However I didn’t need to worry at all as she just sat or lay down close to me and didn’t bother anyone. I love how she crosses her paws!

Cinnamon is a lovely girl who will follow you just about everywhere! Just not the water haha. But she loved her time on the sand πŸ™‚

Ben, well Ben just loves everyone. He will knock you over with his enthusiasm! Sometimes literally XP It’s impossible to be unhappy with Ben around. His tail never stops wagging! When he got scared by the waves, he only backed up two steps, and then lookedΒ up at meΒ with his tail wagging again.

We already can’t wait for our next outing in July! Where will our four hosts bring us next? Cinnamon has actually gone to a foster home now, so we will have a new host next time. Felix will also rejoin the team! Stay tuned for our adventures! ❀
