Walter was one of the first dogs I walked at HKDR. He made a deep impression on me because the first thing he did when I walked into his enclosure was come over and lay his head on my lap. I felt so special at the time, even though it did not take long to realize that he does this to pretty much everyone hahaha. But even so, I can’t help it if my heart melts a little every time he leans into my touch 😉

Walter is a friendly dog, and he’s also very laid back. He loves his walks (rainy days excluded) but otherwise he is happiest lying down on his bed and getting belly rubs.

Walter enjoys a nice massage. He likes getting his fur brushed too!

The faces of Walter. He looks so serious most of the time, but sometimes you catch him acting silly or with a happy smile on his face! 🙂

He may not be smiling but his tail is wagging furiously!

The one thing that Walter absolutely hates is the rain. Even when there’s a thunderstorm and all the dogs are soaking wet, Walter is the one who somehow stays completely dry. May So told me that one time while she was walking Walter, he suddenly began pulling her back towards kennels. She was confused, but minutes after they got back, it started pouring rain. I guess Walter is even more accurate than the weather reports! 😛

Nope. It’s raining outside. I can’t go for a walk!

One rainy day, Walter saw me walk into his enclosure, and immediately stood up, turned around so his back was towards me, and then snuggled back into his bed! Haha! He couldn’t have been more clear that he wasn’t about to go on a walk in the rain! 😛 Luckily the rain stopped by the time I finished walking his friends, so he came over and asked me to leash him.

Walk in the rain? No thanks.
But when the sun comes out, Walter gets a big smile! 😀
I love Walter’s tail because it gives him a very “rectangular” look haha. It almost bends at 90 degrees!
Taking treats gently.

Walter is such an easy dog, and would be so happy just to have a warm, dry bed with some love and cuddles. He already knows how to sit, and shake hands (although if the ground is wet he will only crouch 😛 ). Go meet this sweet boy at Tai Po!

Party Time

It was so nice to see the sun yesterday, after weeks of fog and rain. With the wonderful weather, it was not surprising that there were many people at Tamar Park! We usually play in the smaller of the two dog parks at Tamar, but our dogs were so well behaved yesterday that we joined the party over at the larger dog park! We met many visitors, including many ex-HKDR dogs!

Nattie in the back, Rudolf, Yoyo, and Apple with their backs to the camera, and Yogi, Kuma, and Pasha facing the camera 🙂
Some of the many HKDR friends we met yesterday.

Some people seem to think that mixed breeds or rescue dogs are all naughtier than purebred dogs. I think our dogs yesterday proved that this is not true at all!

Rudolf had a happy grin on his face the whole day. Even when two dogs playing chase ran right into him and knocked him back a step, he took it in stride (pun intended 😉 ).

Apple has the sweetest face and attracted lots of admirers. She was happy to interact with them, especially if it involved treats! 😉

I don’t think Rudolf and Apple are siblings but they look a lot alike!

Nattie loved the grass so much and kept running around and rolling in it. She was a little scared of all the new dogs at first, but she warmed up had fun exploring the park. When someone called her name, she would happily run over with her tail wagging to ask for a hug.

Nattie loves her human friends.

When Pauline wasn’t enjoying her time with her friend Alice, she was up on the ledge, sniffing in the bag of treats haha. But when we distracted her from that activity, she was happy to stand beside you and let you pet her.

What’s in the bag?

I think Yoyo was the most popular one yesterday (shh, don’t tell the other dogs I said that!) because he was happy to run around and say hello to anyone and everyone! He loved all the attention he got and stood so still as he enjoyed his pets and massages. He was friendly with other dogs and children, and was so patient when a couple of little girls put a flower on his head 😛

I hope I remember all who were there yesterday, but thanks to ex-HKDR dogs Candy, Yogi, Kuma, Momo, Charmaine, Pasha, Lily, Cody, Clara, Mac and Anna. I’m sorry if I missed any! And I also apologize because in true HKDR fashion I only remember the dogs’ names hahaha. Thank you to all the doggie parents too! 😀

Keeping our fingers crossed that the good weather will stay. We are enjoying these outings as much as the dogs and we love meeting new and old friends! Hope to see you next week and check our Facebook page to find out who will be there! 🙂

Spa Day

The fog was crazy yesterday! Victoria Harbour practically disappeared.

Anyway, back to the dogs! Haha. We were late getting to Tamar Park, but no less fun was had. Yesterday’s outing was like a nice spa afternoon for our four kings! 😉 There was grooming, massages, and of course, a little treat. Be sure to check out our video later this week for most of the footage, but as you can tell from Taurus’s happy face here, the dogs loved it!

Leonard and Taurus were never far from each other. They are so sweet. But Taurus did get jealous when Teresa kept brushing Leonard’s fur and not his haha. He kept leaning his head on  her arm, asking for attention.

Leonard and Taurus don’t like drinking water, but if we add a little bit of chicken soup to the bowl of water then they lap it all up. Have to keep this fluffy lion hydrated!

We have so many photos of these two seniors smiling so much that their eyes disappear.

Pip did what he does best: sniffing out food! His little nose is always twitching and he never fails to figure out where the treats are.

We had to protect Pip as he gnawed on his bone, because a brave little Jack Russell Terrier kept trying to steal it! 😛 In fact, he took the first one right out of Pip’s mouth haha. He just walked right up, said I’ll take that thank you very much, and nipped the bone from between Pip’s teeth. Poor Pip didn’t react at all and politely let the little dog take it. To be honest, even I was a little surprised. Turns out Pip is even more laid back than I thought!

I love this photo of “fierce” Pip. The truth is, he didn’t know what to do with the toy and I just put it in his open mouth haha. He chewed on it a little bit and then decided it wasn’t interesting because it wasn’t food 😛 Also he let us loop that other toy around his neck.

I didn’t know Gaucho is already 8 years old! Along with Leonard and Taurus who are 12, it turns out we had 3 “seniors” with us today. Gaucho was friendly with all the other dogs, even though he did get intimidated by a little Yorkie haha.

With all the treats going around we decided to try to lead the dogs on a run around the park to burn off some calories. However they were having none of that and only very reluctantly walked a quick lap with me XP

We had a few ex-HKDR visitors, including Anna and Caspian. But in particular we would like to give a big thank you to Clara and Cody and their adopter, who not only donated money for our transportation costs, but have also been at Tamar Park every Saturday to support us. We love you! ❤

We also have to thank a few others who have donated money to support our weekly transportation costs. We hope to be able to continue bringing dogs to Tamar every week so that more people can meet them!

Before we left we took a big group photo consisting of HKDR dogs, ex-dogs, adopters, and volunteers! Thank you everyone for coming!

The four kings and their entourage. We will be back! 😀

Friends Forever

It may have been a cold and gloomy day yesterday, but that did not damper the dogs’ spirits at all! They had an amazing time at Tamar Park and thanks to everyone who came to see them! 🙂

Gypsy was so happy to see her long time friend, Alice, She welcomed attention from everyone and would lie down beside you as you gave her a nice massage 😉

Ben absolutely loves people and ran around the park cuddling and kissing everyone he could find. Check out our Facebook photos to see more evidence of Ben’s kisses! Haha.

Ben also had a funny encounter with a little schnauzer who had a crush on him and kept following him around. Even after Ben decided he’d had enough of his admirer, he never lost his temper at the schnauzer. Instead, he realized that if he jumped on the ledge, the schnauzer would be too short to reach him haha. One good thing that came out of this encounter was that Ben got a short exercise out of it! 😉 I think he was partly playing with the schnauzer, and partly running away from him XP

Nancy was a little shy but she was there with her favourite volunteer so she had fun following her around and looking for treats 😛

Bossy is such a sweetheart and greeted everyone so warmly. So I didn’t even think too much of it when someone came into the dog park and Bossy ran over to give her kisses. But soon I realized this was not just a regular friendly greeting from Bossy, this was her favourite volunteer! Bossy stayed by her best friend’s side the whole time, and showed off her tricks like shaking hands and playing dead.

She was so sad when her volunteer finally had to leave. You can imagine what a loyal and sweet dog she will be when she finds her forever family! I’m sure she will never forget this special friend though.

We also saw ex-HKDR dog Crumble! She is such a playful puppy. Gypsy had fun playing chase with her for awhile. Then Crumble tried to play with the schnauzer, but the schnauzer was too busy chasing after Ben! XD

Unfortunately the bad weather did mean there were less visitors overall, but all the dogs had a great time. Hopefully the sun will come back out next week! See you then! 🙂

Stars of the Show

All the dogs were stars yesterday in our outing to Tamar Park.

First there was Doc. He attracted attention because all you could see was his head poking out of the bushes. He was a little nervous at first and he found his little safe spot. However, some people went over to pet him and interact with him, and slowly he came out of the bushes to enjoy his head scratches.

Dopey stood out because of her unique looks, and she loved all the attention she got. She liked to stay by her brother Doc, and the siblings got all the pets and love they wanted.

One of the good things about bringing the dogs to Tamar is that they get to meet new friends and learn how to play! Here is Dopey playing with Bosco. Jasper also learned from Waffle that chasing balls can be fun! 😉

Then Jasper stole the show when he started performing how to catch chicken out of mid-air! He has great accuracy 🙂

Now we just have to teach Jasper that catching a ball can be just as fun… well, maybe almost as fun, as catching chicken! 😉

Dina was the calmest one and was our ambassador to meet other people and dogs.

Dina says hello to ex-HKDR dog Snuffle.

The highlight of their afternoon was definitely the food, even the food that wasn’t for them 😛

I’ll be honest, the humans liked the bubbles more than the dogs haha. But they were a good sport, and let us take our photos 😉

The dogs were pooped by the end of the afternoon. Doc crawled under the seat of the van and promptly fell asleep.

Thanks to our team for another successful outing! 😀
